Welcome to Adirondack Green House Basketry, your source for quality artisan basketry! Adirondack Green House Basketry offers four sizes of my contemporary version of the iconic Adirondack Pack Basket. They are woven in the same historic design, using Select Quality reed rather than native ash. All cotton harnesses are custom made by me as well.

Bio

The name Adirondack Green House Basketry represents my love of the Adirondacks, my passion for basket weaving and my family name. I found my niche in weaving when I took a class in 2007 to learn how to weave an Adirondack Pack Basket. I was instantly hooked, and have been working to improve and expand my craft ever since.

Still my favorite, and best selling basket, is my contemporary version of the iconic Adirondack Pack Basket. The original Adirondack Pack Baskets were made of black or brown ash. The young tall trees were cut, soaked and then pounded to peel splints to weave with. My Adirondack Pack Baskets are made with select quality reed that is imported from India and China. Reed is from the bamboo family. It is a fast growing, highly renewable natural resource. Using this material reduces the need to cut our native trees.

I have lived in the Adirondack Park in Old Forge, NY for over 35 years. My parents bought a camp on Fourth Lake while I was still in High School. After Graduating from Cosmetology School and working in the Utica area, I tried working in Old Forge in the summer and Florida in the winter for a couple of seasons Old Forge finally called me home to stay. My daughters were fortunate to grow up in this little mountain town.

With lineage here that dates back to the late 1800”s, my Adirondack roots grow deep. My great, great Grandfather Seth Pierce, found work here as an Adirondack guide to hunters and fishermen. In the winter months he created beautiful furniture using the twig and birch accents like so many craftsmen do today. Some were sold to wealthy camp owners. One piece, a corner cupboard, remains on permanent display at the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain, NY.

I invite you to check out the events and workshops available on the site. Interactive links will provide directions to venues and the ability to register directly.

Please enjoy the fabulous photography work on the site by Kurt Gardner of Adirondack Mountain Productions.

I am available to schedule workshops at your venue. Please contact me for availability and prices. You can also contact me regarding custom orders.

Thank you!
